The Adam of Black Pope Series: First one in the series of Black Pope paintings.  Painted suggestion of the ultimate European response to the election of America's first black President:  Elect a black Pope.

Slaves on white crosses points to the Vatican's role in slavery and long facilitation of slave trade and colonialism. At a certain point growth in Catholicism could only be through numbers of conversions black and brown peoples of the world.  Horus Eye hanging from the Star of David enshrined with an “I” is from ancient Ethiopia and long enshrined symbol in the Rastafarian religion. The first Black Pope is likely from Africa (Egypt or Ethiopia) and could have Muslim or Jewish roots.  Iconic black angel is the Red Hope, an event unlikely to happen.  Blue Coke might be intoxicating as an idea but one that does not (yet) exist.  White Rope reflects history of slaves being bounded and rounded up, as well as lynching in America and the perils abound. The Black Pope.. not today's reality!!
